The artists Gina and Sonja Odathuparambil, Reena and Ruby John and Sugitha Pallivathukal are part of the the Indian dance group Layam.
About 13 years ago they started their education in Indian classical dance – Bharathanatyam. Today they cover a multiplicity of Indian dances, too: Odissi, Semi-Classic, Folkdance, traditional dances up to modern Bollywood dances. Extraordinary choreographies, perfect synchronicity and beautiful grace is characteristic for this group.
These five dancers meet once in a week to rehearse and practice their own-choreographed dances. Furthermore they use their free time to study futher.
Layam is a word from the South Indian language Malayalam and means fusion, becoming one. The dancers, their soul and their bodies fuse to a unity with the music. That is how the dance gains expression and shows passion.
